Agreement

To speak of my covenant entered into only a couple of days ago: In retrospect, as then, I did not feel the ecstatic touch of last year. Well the covenant did not stand the test of unusual bowel movement beginning third day of the festival. As per the terms of the agreement, the beneficiary was required to place his soul in trust of the benefactor who in turn would nourish the entrusted soul. The only consideration demanded was one page of learning from the benefactor’s law. The beneficiary, in severe non-compliance neglected the entire agreement and contravened the unsaid assumptions based on which the agreement was entered into in first place. Had either party known that the beneficiary is not aware of the basic facts underlying the agreement, there would not have been any understanding at all. I am sure the benefactor was aware in advance and therefore his acceptance of the agreement is the sign of benefactor’s magnanimity. If the benefactor wishes he could call the agreement void ab-initio. The beneficiary however lost remnants of his soul. He is mourning the loss. He wishes now to seek recourse to original terms of the agreement and promises to pledge his soul in trust of the benefactor. If asked why the beneficiary failed, he would reply that an earthly spectre visited his house uninvited (the beneficiary falters while saying ‘uninvited’ and the interlocutor could easily note the beneficiary’s uneasiness over the matter of invitation) and stayed for days trying to appease the reluctant host. The host has finally succeeded in expelling the unwanted guest (the beneficiary is in no doubt about the guest not being wanted, the interlocutor could feel it in his voice) and is not proud of his hostliness any more. Saying all this, the beneficiary requests the benefactor to place his seal on the agreement presented.

Speaking of the earthly spectre, I want to know the extent to which it has stifled my development. If there is one thing which I might want people from a different country to do differently is to never invite the earthly spectre to their homes. (Past is a different country, they do things differently there-The Go-Between-LP Hartley) I would stand in the streets they frequent and grab them from the collars, shake them up and tell them to never invite the unwanted guests at dinner. I would be extremely interested in knowing where I would stand on professional, personal, intellectual, mental, emotional, familial and social planes had I not responded to the spectre’s advances and his friendliness.
